España, ancestral homeland
Pola de Siero
Village of the Mountain. Such a mundane name for the town where the Vigil surname can be traced to its earliest roots. While I claim Hispanic heritage, northern Spain was once home to the Celts. Indeed, the Celts were in Asturias before they crossed to the Celts’ beloved Ireland. My lineage in Pola dates to the latter half of the 16th century.
On the following pages, you may share some of our travels. (It was in Mexico where I had one of those moments: We were dining on the beach on the Pacific coast when this feeling washed over me and I told Barbara, “Four hundred years ago, one of my ancestors was born in Mexico City.” My first known native North American ancestor was born in the Mexican capital in 1600.)
